Making it Complicated
Making it Complicated (I Heart Iloilo #2)
By Clarisse David
Genre: Romance
Age category: Young Adult, New Adult
Release Date: October 16, 2017

Blurb:
No promises. No expectations. Just one night on a paradise island that could mean everything.

Nineteen-year-old Cam has a metric ton of emotional baggage and is in no mood to unload them on anyone. After her parents' marriage imploded, stress-free is the only way she wants her life to be. And what could be more freeing than spending the summer on Boracay? Absolutely nothing... until she bumps heads with Hunter, the hot drummer who screams incoming heartbreak from a mile away.

Hunter has grand plans, none of which include angry-at-the-world Cam, best friend to the girl he always thought he'd end up with. He likes his life steady, thank you very much. But steady has now become synonymous with boring. His grand plans don't seem so grand anymore. So when Cam comes home to Iloilo City and reaches out to him, he surprises himself when the one answer he can think of is... yes. Definitely yes.

Sometimes, complications are the only things that make sense.

Hello and good morning my beautiful people! Today is a cold day in this part of the world and I'm thinking on wearing my new black boots I bought yesterday for a veeeery low price (I'm very happy about this if you haven't caught up with that lmao). But it's a very warm and happy day as well because today it is the reveal of the cover of the newest Tara Frejas book known as #ProjectPio on the Twitterverse. But you'll find out about many more things + as well as the cover, in this blog post of mine!

Tara Frejas is a cloud-walker who needs caffeine to fuel her travels. When she’s not on work mode, she keeps herself busy by weaving her daydreams into stories. Aside from her obvious love affair with words and persistent muses, Tara is very passionate about being caffeinated, musical theatre, certain genres of music, dancing, dogs, good food, and romancing Norae, her ukelele. She owns a male bunny named Max who sometimes tries to nibble on her writing notes. Fun fact: She's a Piscean. Go figure.

Title: Like Nobody’s Watching
Author: Tara Frejas
Genre: Contemporary Romance / NA
Release Date: October 24, 2017
Book Cover Design: Miles Tan
Photography: Chi Yu Rodriguez
Model: Fred Lo

SYNOPSIS

It's all fun and games until someone catches feelings.

If there's something Pio Alvez is good at, it's pretending to be someone he's not. On stage and on-screen, the actor has mastered the art of becoming the characters he plays, and his new role should be no different. After all, how difficult would it be to pretend to be smitten with a beautiful, intelligent go-getter like Audrey Alonzo? Perhaps it's more difficult pretending not to be.

With stories ranging from sweet to sexy, there's sure to be something for any fan of romance.

Featuring stories by:
Elea Andrea Almazora • Erleen Alvarez • Ella Banta • Rachelle Belaro • H. Bentham
• Halina Cabrera • Charlie Dio • Mina V. Esguerra • Elizabeth Galit • Georgette S. Gonzales
• Ami Granada • Irene Jurado • Catherine Lo • Arlene Manocot • Bianca Mori • Eris Peñaluna
• Farrah F. Polestico • Kit Salazar • Miel Salva • Fay Sebastian • Kate Sebastian
• Yeyet Soriano • Marian Tee

Now, ready for this amazing post by Mina Esguerra? I asked Mina to tell me her favorite romantic tropes and a recommendation for a book for each of them. I hope you all enjoy it and add these books in your TBR.

1. Competence Porn
I love it in books, movies, TV, and I see traces of it in ships I’ve been into in all kinds of media. I absolutely FLAIL when the MC and LI are very good at what they do. Sometimes they work together, sometimes they meet as adversaries, I don’t care -- give me people who know what they’re doing being knowledgeable and flirty!
Check out: An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole

2. Hate to Love
Maybe it’s because I miss the bantery rom-com movies, but at least I get my fill from books. I love it when it seems like they have no time for the other’s shenanigans, but end up being completely smitten anyway.
Check out: Asking for Trouble by Tessa Bailey

3. Fake Dating
I’ve enjoyed this trope since I was a teen reader, because the idea was just so preposterous...but also perfect. This kind of story allowed two super different people to leap into a “dating” situation and it always seemed like a lot of fun.
Check out: Act Like It by Lucy Parker

4. Dating Someone Famous
Maybe this isn’t so much of a fave trope and more of an actual fantasy--but it’s a shared one, I’m sure! I love reading books that explore what it would be like to be the “regular person” who suddenly has to deal with all that fame and scrutiny because of their relationship.
Check out: Songs to Make You Stay by Jay E. Tria

5. Age Gap
I never thought I’d get into this! But now I have. In the hands on skilled writers, the HEA in these stories can be so satisfying, and an MC whether the younger or older one can defy stereotypes and surprise you.
Check out: Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun (younger man), and Pretty Face by Lucy Parker (younger woman)

Title: Feels Like Summer
Series: Summer Storm #2
Author: Six de los Reyes
Cover design by: Porcupine Strongwill

Synopsis:

Five-minute girlfriend. This is what Jett signs up for when she meets Adrian and his band Arabella at beach music festival Summer Storm. One kiss and the attraction is too electric to ignore, but Jett has no room for love and Adrian is Mr. Relationship who's getting over his recent breakup. The solution? Keep it simple. Keep it casual. For three months (that's the rule about breakups, right?), Jett helps Adrian move on and Adrian shows up on Jett's bed whenever she wants.
Then the three months are up and neither of them are in a hurry to be the first to leave. Does Jett walk away from a potential disaster or does she finally let someone into her closely-guarded heart?

Review

Six de los Reyes broke me into a million pieces. And it's such a beautiful feeling.

Feels Like Summer brought me back to life. It's such a good romance book, you all. I literally recommend everyone to pick it up and read it. (It's on sale now!!!) Six writes really great otps and the interactions between them are some of the best I have read in books in general. She drews them out and makes us hurt and be in pain but in the end it's so worth it. I can assure you this.

In this book there are rock boy bands and it's glorious. I love the camaraderie this whole group has. I want to be part of this family so badly, and whispers I want books for every single group member, please yes? We have our main love interest, Adrian, who I thought he was such a jerk at the beginning but fell in love with him really quickly after. He is such a PUPPY. He wants to make Jett very very happy in any way possible. He's always there when needed and he is shy and cute and a bossy person when he is with his band.

Jett is hands down one of my favorite female protagonists. She embraces her sexuality and she isn't here to take shit from no one. At the beginning she becomes Adrian's five minute girlfriend, because his ex is at the same event they all are and some of Adrian's bandmates ask Jett if she could maybe do them a favor and be Adrian's five minute girlfriend? It's such a wild ride since the beginning and it's so FUN. You never go down that roller coaster. You'll have so much fun reading this book and I recommend you do it in one go because you won't be able to wait to know more about and what will happen after every chapter ending.

I love that Jett doesn't hate Adrian's ex. In fact they all hit it off really well. I love that she even helps Jett at the end and it's really freaking good to see women supporting women, especially in romance novels. I've read many books cough cough that the protagonists are misogynistic and dislike every woman that nears the hero. So it was a breath of fresh air to see Jett and Ellie become semi-friends.

And finally don't you just LOOOVE #romanceclass books? I love that sometimes authors write other characters from other books into the current book? Like I love even from the same author like past works. But sometimes it is much better because they add characters from OTHER AUTHOR'S WORKS. And they all meet!!!! So it was awesome to see Trainman in FEELS LIKE SUMMER. I didn't know them when I read it the first time, but when I finally read Jay's book, I was definitely having many feels inside my body.

Title: All That Glitter
Author: Ines Bautista-Yao
Release date: March 31st, 2017
Pages: 124

Synopsis:
When they have nothing better to do, college students Billie Santiago and Carlos Angeles enjoy imagining what their lives will be like five years into the future. It’s never serious—just a whole lot of teasing and poking fun at each other. Until blindingly handsome, PR professional Iñigo Antonio saunters into the university bookstore where Billie works. All of a sudden, she finds herself face to face with the physical manifestation of the very dream she tells Carlos about.
Captivated by Iñigo’s magnetic personality, Billie is lured into his dazzlingly glamorous world—much to Carlos’s frustration. But as Billie notices Iñigo might not be playing by the rules, Carlos begs her to stay away from him. When Billie doesn’t listen, she realizes too late that she is in over her head and it may take a miracle (or a boy who cares deeply about her) to help get her out of it.

Review

All That Glitters is a glamorous, glitter-y story. It's also very soft. Especially because of the hero. I adored Carlos so much and he is such a Softie and caring person. I'm sorry but #romanceclass heroes are always so cute, like please write 1839833 more, thank you.

Some bullet points:
- Best friends to lovers trope
- Very caring and a soft hero, who somehow always matches clothes with the heroine so they 1000% look like a couple since the beginning?
- It might seem like a love triangle, but nah you all. It's not. Billie's #1 is Carlos since page 1.
- Cute NA, set in college
- But also has this glamorous teaspoon bc Billie gets enchanted by this fab life + goes to these events
- Girl friendships always there for each other
- Cute siblings (twins) that love love her sister aka the MC and really like the hero and want to play videogames with him forever lmao.

And I did an aesthetic!

Title: Keeping the Distance
Series: I Heart Iloilo #1
Author: Clarisse David

Book synopsis:
No bets. No fake relationships. Just a very real one that has to be kept under wraps. Seventeen-year-old Melissa wants to dye her hair cotton candy pink and focus on her ukulele instead of Physics. But she can't. As the daughter of a Catholic school principal, living up to her model student image 24/7 is a must. Something's about to give under all the pressure. She only hopes it isn't her.
Getting involved with a troublemaking basketball player is the last possible thing she needs...Lance is used to getting what he wants. With a pretty face he uses to full advantage and his role as co-captain of the basketball team, the easy way is the only way he's ever known. Until the day he notices the prim Melissa he's known forever is actually hot and decides to ask her out. He has no idea he's about to learn the lesson of a lifetime.
Not getting what he wants might exactly be what he needs...

Goodreads | Amazon

If you are like me and enjoyed and loved SKAM especially Noora and William, KEEPING THE DISTANCE is a close proximity to this couple. Melissa and Lance reminded me so much of them that it made me so nostalgic because we all know how good Noora and William were.

Aside from the greatest  ship of all time, Melissa and Lance do these pranks to each other and there is basically the enemies to lovers trope tbh. It's a bit hate to love as well. My favorite tropes of all times. It's set in high school, so definitely young adult. Melissa wears pastel colors-clothes and it's so adorable and to be honest, expect lots of cuteness and it's just simply a perfect contemporary romance. You can also expect "bad boy" and "good girl" trope, though you'll get to know Melissa and how she doesn't really want to keep being the perfect child just because her dad is the principal of her school.

Lance is the rich kid and somehow he is lonely. Though he has his sister, he lives alone and has no one at home. I loved his sister. He always rang her and talked to her about Melissa and express his undying love for her lmao no but Lance's sister totally knew he was whipped.

Sue put in her review that if you liked TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE, you'll love this one and I agree. If you like that sort of cute, adorable, pastel-aesthetic YA contemporaries, I really recommend to pick KEEPING THE DISTANCE up. It is so good.

I'm such a big fan of romance contemporary books. Recently, I have been reading more and more and they just fill me with happiness and you can swoon and laugh and cry ok. This may include New Adult but they are romance so I'm adding with them. Also I've been seeing the typical NA storyline always with white het characters ~ *sarcasm* because why not ~ and they're so popular around bloggers/readers. But to be honest, they have the same cookie box structure.... and everyone loves them.
