Goodreads synopsis:
**A multicultural new adult romance from bestselling author, J.J. McAvoy**
Eli Davenport thinks he’s found the perfect woman to be his wife. She’s a doctor, like he is. She’s brilliant, like he is. And she’s wealthy, like he is.
Guinevere 'Gwen' Poe thinks her fiancé is the perfect man. He’s handsome, successful and he was her first…
But when Eli’s bride runs off with Gwen’s fiancée on his wedding day, they are left to pick up the broken pieces of each other...
Let me tell you something. Just by that blurb, I became really intrigued by this book and the story inside. I mean, I had like a mad love for it already and I knew zero to nothing about it. It is a well-written blurb to be honest, and I found myself fascinated by Eli and Gwen immediately.
I know McAvoy delivers, and she delivers AMAZING STUFF. Her stories always have a punch and a spark and a couple you root until the end. That Thing Between Eli and Gwen was just what I wanted and just what I got; superb cast of multicultural characters, *great* family dynamics, hate-to-love trope, but then a bit of friends to love too :') Eli and Gwen made me laugh and swoon and I kept squealing throughout the whole novel jeez.

"I want to talk about you and me, and this thing between us."

*These are my fancasts for Eli and Gwen*
Maybe what I would say *oops* is that the ending might have been too rushed? But overall I did love it. I don't know by the end I was pretty satisfied. The whole cast of characters this novel has made up for it. Gwen and Eli were perfect since the start, when you find out they are neighbors and they meet up EVERYWHERE. And their unlikely friendship starts. They are so fun together and tbh I love that they live next door lol.
The families in this novel are also A+++++. I give them all the golden stars because we have good and healthy relationships between them. Eli's family is just my favorite thing in the world, probably it is. His mother and brother are so sweet and they become fast friends (and they love her) with Gwen. It's so funny to see early-book Eli not liking Gwen but his family loves her omg. ANDDD Gwen's family is also pretty great and they are always there for each other, and they care for each other too.
I loved seeing the different parts of their life concering their jobs: Eli is a doctor and Gwen is an artist. Both of them are SUPER RICH (which I adored!) and they love their jobs a lot. We spend a lot of time in the hospital Eli works and we can see all the different jobs a doctor has.
This book is definitely one of my new NA favorites. Not only from 2016 but ALL TIME. It's so good and so modern. It's a book we need right now. You guys should definitely pick it up when it's out, you'll have a great time and fall in love with these cast of characters.
I’m a twenty-year-old something born in Montreal, Canada but currently living in Virginia for school. I would tell you want my major is however after two years I still have no idea what I’m doing.
So I’m a writer (duh that’s how you found me), movie enthusiast, and self-proclaimed chef. I love music even though I can’t sing or dance to save my life. (That doesn’t necessarily stop me but you’ve been warned.)
I started Ruthless People the summer of 2013 in hopes of giving myself a new type of love and crime drama. I never knew so many people thought like me! I feel truly blessed to have fans like you all! Writing is my true love and having you all enjoy my words is a dream come true.

I *must* read this one - especially after how much I enjoyed Ruthless People! The atmosphere of this one seems quite different than that trilogy, but light books are TOTALLY UP MY ALLEY. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess I'm used to rushed books in contemporaries, so that shouldn't both me.
*sighs in content at nice family dynamics* I L-O-V-E reading those types of families. And these main characters seem so endearing! As you know, I'm an artist myself so I think I'd really get Gwen. On the other hand, I want to go into medical in the future so Eli also interests me. :D The diversity seems so beautiful! <3

I LOVE FAMILY DYNAMICS. Sometimes I see too many parents being mean or like not caring for their children... but WHEN THERE IS FAMILY DYNAMICS is like the sun shone brighter tbh!!
DeleteAw yes you'll love Gwen she says some magnific things about art and she clearly loves what she does <3 Oh!!!! You'll see all the things happening at a hospital and it's wonderful. J.J. really captured the atmosphere! And yes to all diversity. This book is wonderful
