Title: Daring Fate
Series: Silver Tip Pack #1
Author: Megan Erickson
Release date: November 14th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | iBooks | Kobo

Synopsis

We all have tragic backstories in today’s world...

I wake up chained to the wall of a dark cell aware of two things: I failed my sister, and I smell my enemy.

When I’m taken to meet Dare, the alpha of the Silver Tip pack, I’m sure I’m about to lose my throat. The last thing I expect is for the Alpha to recognize me as his fated mate. No way is he going to let me go now, and I still have to find a way to rescue my sister.

As I plot my escape to save her, I find that if I leave, Dare could be killed by power-hungry members of his pack. And now he’s more to me than my fated mate—my heart is involved. With time ticking by on my sister’s life, I have to make a choice I never thought I’d face—my sister’s life or my mate’s? That’s if I can survive the undead shifters intent on killing me first…

Review

Megan's new series is going to shake the world.

Silver Tip Pack series's first book, Daring Fate is just want I needed. It was sweet, intriguing, sexy and I was totally shipping everyone with everyone. The main ship is so adorable and has the best trope tbh. But omg the other side couples are !!! one especially, you'll know which I'm talking about when you read it but JESUS THE TROPE FOR THIS COUPLE IS MY NEW KINDS OF FAVE I want a book about them but I'm not sure if there will be one.

This book has werewolves, big wolves, zombies, a tight-knit family, and two protagonists who you see fall head over heels for each other. It all starts sort of enemies-to-lovers and two men that belong to different packs. Never in the world has the world seen a werewolf and a wolf as fated mates, but it just happens that Reese and Dare are fated mates. It's scary at the beginning for Reese because he wakes up in the home of his enemy and he is the only who can help him.

For fans of Underworld and The Walking Dead, this book is surely for you. The danger, the love, the family ties between people who share no blood between them, the undeads, the survival ~ this book has it all. I am really excited for what's to come in the next books. Megan Erickson, you just gave us a homerun.

Megan Erickson is a USA Today bestselling author of romance that sizzles. Her books have a touch of nerd, a dash of humor, and always have a happily ever after. A former journalist, she switched to fiction when she decided she likes writing her own endings better.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her very own nerdy husband and two kids. Although rather fun-sized, she’s been told she has a full-sized personality. When Megan isn’t writing, she’s either lounging with her two cats named after John Hughes characters or… thinking about writing.

Review

Frances is the girl who's up at 3 in the morning doing assignments for her dozen school clubs and classes. Aled is the quiet kid who gets straight A's and sits in the back of the class. They've never had reason to talk before, but when Frances discovers that Aled is the creator behind her favorite podcast, they forge a powerful friendship.

Every great author has their signature. That one element of their writing that no matter the quality of the book will always stick with you. For Alice Oseman, that signature is her unparalleled ability to capture the psyche of the modern teenager. The phrase "So real it hurts" finds its home in the pages of this novel.

Frances is an amazing main character. Her willingness to work herself to exhaustion because what other option is there if I want to succeed? is all too familiar. Yet the more she toils to succeed, the more she feels as if she's losing whatever it is that everyone says is so fun about being a teenager.

Aled, our other protagonist, presents a similar and yet also inverted problem to Frances'. His issues lies in the home, with a sister who disappeared years ago to escape their mother's oppressive nature and a boyfriend he feels is slipping further away ever day for reasons he doesn't understand.

As friends, they finally become the versions of themselves that they truly enjoy being, but the rest of the world is still drowning them with worries from every side. Between Frances' self-imposed "Work until you drop" mantra and the tyrannical rule of Aled's mother, the two have difficulty carving out a place for their own interests and desires.

There were several moments in this book where I had to stop reading and look up texts from friends and in group chats on my phone because, yep, knew it, I've had those exact same conversations with my friends almost verbatim. That is what raises the book from good to great; a feeling of kinship and intimacy with the characters. Oseman knows exactly where to put the focus of the story: the emotions. Because while most teenagers aren't secretly producing a hit podcast, they ARE worrying about tests, college applications, heritage, self-image, public identity, sexuality, and the future as a whole.

This is a book everyone should read, or at least books like it. Books that tell you "Worry all you like, work as hard as you think you should, but that happiness you're working towards won't happen in the future if you don't give yourself time to be happy now."

Alice Oseman was born in 1994 in Kent, England. She recently completed a degree in English literature at the University of Durham. She likes to make things quite a lot. She likes to make books, mainly. But she also likes to make other cool things. She's generally a good egg. Hopefully, she'll avoid having to get a real job for as long as possible.

Alice wrote a book when she was seventeen. That book, SOLITAIRE, was published by HarperCollins on the thirty-first of July, 2014.

Hello guys! I'm here today/tonight to give you a list of 2017 releases that have POC as main characters. Front and center. The heroes. The ones with HEAs. Not the villains. Not the sidekick/best friend who is stereotyped so much you can't even see the real character. Not the slave who falls in love with the white MC. Not the uncivilized compared to the modern white MC. I'm here today as well to discuss something.

It's very common, which pisses me off so much, to see POC mainly as the best friend or as the one who gets kill to make the white savior realize something about themselves. It's not uncommon to see POC being described with food, example: almond-shaped eyes, caramel skin. It's not uncommon for them to be described as "exotic" like they are aliens from another planet, like seeing them is out of the MCs' world. You describe a bird as "exotic," with it's colorful plumage. BUT NOT A PERSON. How can you say that about a person?

Almost always whenever they are called or described like that, the MC is white. Almost always these books get a spot in the Bestseller list...

It's hurtful. It's gross. It's disheartening. It's 2016 ~ ALMOST 2017. I am 1000% done of seeing the same thing over and over again and for these books to receive the praise and the joy and the tears of being the next best thing. The next Diversity Advocate Who Is Saving Us All. Spoiler? It's not. It will never be. And it's hurtful to see people we trust, people we thought as friends to support these kinds of books. Because we know it's badly representing cultures + people. If a POC tells you there is bad rep in a book, listen to them, don't question. Even worse if you question it and the person who tells you has the same culture as the bad rep they are speaking up about.

There are some amazing people speaking up about this issue right now on Twitter, their words are better than mine and I look up to them so much. Check @justinaireland, @mrjaycoles, @EllenOnWords, @TristinaWright, @heidiheilig. I recommend following them on Twitter, every social media platform.

Also authors: if a reader tells you your book is problematic af: listen and be better. Be better to represent minorities. Don't excuse yourself~ you know you did bad. You know you screwed up. Don't try to educate, to explain to POC why your book is not racist when clearly IT IS. When a book is out of the author's hands, the reader can interpret however they want the book. And if it is racist, you'll know for sure.

We can't go into 2017 and still have books that are being published that are hurtful for POC and that represent them badly. Because it's not only hurtful to them but it is awful for teens to pick up these books, THESE YOUNG ADULT BOOKS and read that they are the villains of the world. That they don't get a happy ending because it's *cue sarcasm* important for the white characters to get their HEA or else they get their feels hurt. Because of course our priority is for them to be okay. *rolls eyes*( ̄^ ̄)凸  It's something wonderful right now that so many books are coming out and teens see themselves in it. They can go and say "Hey mom/dad/anyone, this character looks like me." And let me tell you: I think that's the best feeling in the world. While we might get some books like that, all the other times there appear books that use POC as plot devices. And nope, honey, POC are not for you to use for whatever your white MC wants or in real life as well. WE HAVE THREE SUPERHERO BOOKS THAT HAVE POC AS MCS THAT RELEASED IN 2016. And you know how happy that makes us? We are heroes of our own stories.

Ok, now I'm doing a list of 2017 releases that have POC MCs! Note: If you have read one and you think it has bad rep, it's racist ~ tell me and I'll delete it asap. I'll add #ownvoices mostly and books written by POC. And some white authors who I know get the rep right!
