The Book Voyagers

Title: The Flip Side
Author: Shawn Johnson
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Release date: June 7th, 2016
Pages: 320
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble

From gold medalist and reality TV star Shawn Johnson comes a debut YA novel inspired by her own experiences as an elite teenage gymnast—just in time for the Summer 2016 Olympic games.

Charlie Ryland has a secret.

She may seem like your average high school sophomore—but she’s just really good at pretending.

Because outside of school Charlie spends all her waking hours training to become one of the best gymnasts in the world. And it’s not easy flying under the radar when you’re aiming for Olympic gold…especially when an irresistible guy comes along and threatens to throw your whole world off balance.

Inspired by her own experiences as a fifteen-year-old Olympic gymnast, gold medalist Shawn Johnson writes a delightfully entertaining novel about chasing big dreams and falling in love, all while trying to keep it real.

The Flip Side is a great book to choose for the summer. It's light, adorable and because this year we have Olympics, it's a perfect read before the event starts.

I'm always expecting the gymnasts section of the Olympics every four years. It's one of my favorite sports to watch and it's so fun. Plus all these girls have trained hours and hours to get to this point (I know all the sports too!) but I'm captivated by the dancing + the gymnastics itself. If you're into that, Shawn Johnson writes a fun book about the life of one girl who keeps her gymantic life aside from her "normal and high-school" life. It was rather fun to read about Charlie and her friends and how her love for this sport is so real and her goals are something she wants to achieve really bad.

It also has a cute ship that I was rooting for since the first meeting and the guy is so adorable, you won't be able to stop swooning for him. The friendships in this book are so special. And it tells you how friends are always there for each other - the real kind of friends. Even if you are training for the Olympics, if your best friend needs something, you will do anything possible.

The family dynamics is *two thumbs up* I'm happy whenever I see great family dynamics in YA. I love Charlie's brother and her parents were super nice to meet and they were enjoyable to read when they were in scenes with Charlie.

The writing isn't the best to be quite honest. It could be better! Some development also were like *rolling eyes emoji* type. But that's about it. I mean if you don't expect like a super beautiful writing, amazing characters, star-crossed lovers romance, The Flip Side is a fun, easy and cute book that will make you pass your time laughing and smiling.

At 24 years old, American gymnast Shawn Johnson has accomplished a lifetime of achievements that include Olympic Medals, a New York Times best-selling book, a business, a career in broadcast, and took home the coveted mirror ball trophy on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.Hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide watched as a 16 year old Johnson won four medals including gold on the balance beam at the 2008 Summer Olympics, which took place in Beijing, China.

Title: Foolproof Love
Series: Foolproof Love #1
Author: Katee Robert
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: June 6th, 2016
Publisher: Entangled Brazen
Format: Paperback and digital
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iTunes

Bull rider Adam Meyer put Devil’s Falls in his rearview mirror years ago and hasn’t stopped running since. Now he’s back—temporarily, if he has any say about it. Restless, he finds himself kissing the sexiest girl in town…and agreeing to be the fake boyfriend in her little revenge scheme.

Jules Rodrigez isn’t interested in the role of town spinster. Being seen with a hell raiser like Adam is the perfect way to scandalize the residents, make her ex jealous, and prove she’s a sexy, desirable woman. And if their plan includes ridiculously hot sex—in public, of course—all the better.

But this thing between them has an expiration date. Putting down roots isn’t in Adam’s blood, and Jules’s roots in Devil’s Falls are bedrock deep. He’ll leave, even if it rips out his heart. But this time, he’s not sure he’ll survive it…

It wasn't so great as Katee's other books but this is the Brazen side of Entangled and I know these books mostly are hot and sexy as hell. And yeah, Foolproof Love was all of that. It also has its sweeter moments. Jules and Adam made me have a good time, and I'm not gonna lie but this book was really addictive - I nearly finished it all in one go. I couldn't stop reading it and truthfully it was a good and short romance story.

It has:
- Fake dating (if you're into that, come to my side wink wink)
- Sexy times inside a car, oh yeah
- MC Latina
- Dirty-mouthed hero *oops* (you totally need this)

As all Brazen they are rather short so I wanted so much more. Almost always the stories are a bit rushed by the end, but I also always have such a good time reading them. Brazen side of Entangled is so ADDICTING AND *INSERTS FLAME EMOJI* I recommend to those who want a quick sexy and romantic read filled with lots of funny moments, great friendships, family and fake dating trope - pick up Foolproof Love by Katee Robert.

Title: Breaking Skin
Author: Debra Doxer
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release date: June 20th, 2016
Goodreads | Amazon

Dancing is like magic. It makes me disappear.

When I dance I’m not a sister or a daughter, not a lover or a friend. I exist in the moment, onstage, where I turn pain into art and pretend the illusion is real. My past is an abomination and my future is unwritten, but my present is pure, fluid, and focused. I’m content, or at least I think I am, until the night I meet a man who makes me want more.

He’s broken, just like me, but in different ways. He’s older and nothing like the men I’m used to. Compared to him, they’re all boys, immature and insipid, while he’s a force of nature, confident and virile. Virile is a word I’ve never used before, and I only use it now because he embodies it so completely.

At first, he fights the attraction between us almost as hard as I do. But when words like destiny and soulmate whisper through my thoughts, how can I ignore them? He can have any girl he wants, but he looks at me as if I’m the girl he’s waited for his whole life. How can I tell him I’m not that girl?

I wish I were enough for him, wish I were whole. But beneath my facade, I’ve been falling to pieces for a long time, and I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the downward momentum.

This book had the typical NA story tbh. But it's super addicting. I couldn't stop! I started it and finished in hours. If you're looking for a fun and sexy NA, look no more, Breaking Skin is your choice.

Some good stuff I liked a lot:
→ Age gap (YOU KNOW I'M WEAK GUYS)
→ The main hero has a kid
→ Main heroine is a ballerina and hero is a former hockey player
→ Family dynamics!! (but also really disliked a character of 1/2 of the family)
→ There's a dog. A really great, protective, cute dog

Some things I did not like:
→ Nikki thought every single woman that came close to Cole "bad" "mean" and other words I don't want to put here. I'm so tired that woman pit themselves against each other for guys or for any other reason tbh. They can be friends!!! We can seriously.
→ I hated, hated, Nikki's sister. And I'm just trying to not come up with this long paragraph for her because I might spoil every single thing but yeah. She's toxic, I'm sorry, but throughout the whole book, she was.
→ Over-protective hero to the max. I mean I'm okay with a protective of his girl kind of hero. But not one that practically doesn't let her do anything because he's afraid something will happen to her and because of that, he takes decisions (without consulting her first!) and does them.

Debra Doxer was born in Boston, and other than a few lost years in the California sunshine, she has always resided in the Boston area. She writes fiction, technical software documents, illegible scribbles on sticky notes, and texts that get mangled by AutoCorrect. She writes for a living, and she writes for fun. When her daughter asks when she’ll run out of words, her response always is, “When I run out of time.”

Title: A Hundred Thousand Words
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Release date: October 27th, 2015
Pages: 300
Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Tobias Jackson grew up in Coburn, a town where the gay population equaled exactly one: him. Add that to the fact that his dream guy was his best friend's jerky older brother Levi Baxter, and it made hooking up virtually impossible.

Now home from college for winter break, Toby is a different person. He left Coburn for San Francisco, where he wasn't the lone gay guy and the only black kid in town. And yeah, he took advantage of what the city had to offer.

Apparently Toby isn’t the only one who’s changed. Levi’s not acting like the self-centered guy with all the answers that Toby remembers from growing up. Oh and Levi’s realized he's bisexual, which makes things a lot more interesting…

Heading back to college, Toby doesn’t expect to meet up with Levi again, despite him being in med school not far away. A surprise visit from Levi blows that assumption out of the water. As they spend more time together Toby sees Levi as more than just the fantasy. He’s complicated, unsure…he’s real. But if Toby can’t get out of the past and find the words he keeps locked inside himself, he’ll lose his chance at Levi for good.

Read this book people. Like you need it in your life, in your blood, in your bones to be honest. It's so sweet and romantic and real and raw. I related to it, You will relate to it. It's about college, decisions, family, loss, love, friendship. It's so real that you will feel you're inside the story with these characters. Nyrae Dawn made my night when I read this. It's definitely one of my favorite now.

Hi guys! This is Sil with this month's wrap-up post. A week ago I came back to my hometown aka Cancun to spend the summer holidays with my parents. I could only bring two books *cries* AND (!!!) I found out that same day I left Puebla some packages arrived for me. *yes* book mail!! I won't see them until August sadly and I'm pretty sure what they are and I'm so sad but that's what I got lmao.

#1 THE ART OF LAINEY by Paula Stokes + lots of beautiful swag!

Paula did a contest for her newest YA contemporary book, GIRL AGAINST THE UNIVERSE, and I got second place!!! It was so great and fun. Paula does amazing contests so you guys should enter them always hah. I won The Art of Lainey by her and she sent me lots of swag as well. I designed for her a sticker for GATU and she sent those to me too! You can see them in the pic.

Thanks, Paula! I cannot wait to start TAOL too :)

#2 THE ROSE AND THE DAGGER by Renée Ahdieh

I finally got one of my most anticipated sequels + final book for 2016. The Rose & The Dagger is beautiful and everything I have wanted in a final book. I can't believe Shazi and Khalid's story ended but gosh I will for sure reread this duology so many times.

Totally will get The Wrath and the Dawn paperback soon because *gosh* it's such a beautiful and pretty book. I love the cover + one more copy of one of my favorite series in the world is perfect hah!

#3 DOROTHY MUST DIE by Danielle Paige

I got Dorothy Must Die at the airport. I have been interested to starting this series because I totally love retellings. I know it is a twist-y way to retelling The Wizard of Oz because if I am correct, Dorothy went evil and now she reigns in terror in Oz? Enter this new girl who suddenly comes into Oz to save the world.

It sounds super cool and hope it is! I've heard good things from fellow bloggers so I'm keeping my mind opened.

#4 UNICORN TRACKS swag by Julia Ember

I also received an envelop with Unicorn Tracks swag. Thank you so much Julia! Everything was super gorgeous and pretty. I can't take a picture because as I said already I'm not home :/ But know that Julia is so kind and her swag is 1000% beautiful. If you haven't read Unicorn Tracks, you totally should do it. We recently published the Diverse Books Tag and you can see there what Unicorn Tracks is about. Of course we also have our review here: x
