Title: When The Moon Was Ours
Author: Anna-Marie McLemore
Publisher: Thomas Dunne / St. Martin's Press
Release date: October 4th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

When the Moon Was Ours follows two characters through a story that has multicultural elements and magical realism, but also has central LGBT themes—a transgender boy, the best friend he’s falling in love with, and both of them deciding how they want to define themselves.

To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel’s wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees, and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town.

But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel’s skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they’re willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up.

When the Moon Was Ours was beautiful and more. It was everything I have wanted in a novel. I don't read a lot of magical realism books, I don't think I have ever read a YA magical realism book before (except the Gabriel García Márquez book!). But this book made me love it and it made me remember my culture and the beautiful way you can see life.

Title: What About Today
Author: Dawn Lanuza
Release date: April 14th, 2015

Goodreads | Amazon | iBooks | Kobo | B&N | Buqo | Smashwords

Aiden's stuck working for his family’s amusement park, Funtastic World, for the whole summer. Nothing amuses him, until he met this terrified girl. Gemma's stuck in Funtastic World thinking she could handle the park's rides. She couldn't. Good thing she met someone to guide her. As the day comes to a close, Aiden and Gemma ask themselves if one day is ever enough to decide if they were better off as friends or strangers.

An amusement park, 24-hours, two teens and lots of great fun. What About Today was a sweet and cute short read that makes you realize that a day in an amusement park, hanging out with the son of the owner is actually something I want.

Title: Rookie Move
Series: Brooklyn Bruisers #1
Author: Sarina Bowen
Publisher: Berkley Publishing Group
Release date: September 6th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin for the egalley.

Leo Trevi has become one of my top Sarina Bowen heroes. I'm still crushing on Bridger but Leo is close close close. Sarina has transitioned to the big league. It's not just college hockey now, but the NHL. We see Leo move through going into a new team, adaptating and getting close with his teammates, a coach who hates him and the reunion with his ex-girlfriend. He's such a sweetheart and caring, and you can see he really does care about Georgia A LOT.

Title: A Shadow Bright and Burning
Series: Kingdom on Fire #1
Author: Jessia Cluess
Publisher: Random House
Release date: September 20th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon

I am Henrietta Howel. The first female sorcerer. The prophesied one. Or am I?

Henrietta Howel can burst into flames. When she is brought to London to train with Her Majesty's sorcerers, she meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, young men eager to test her powers and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her. As Henrietta discovers the secrets hiding behind the glamour of sorcerer life, she begins to doubt that she's the true prophesied one. With battle looming, how much will she risk to save the city--and the one she loves?

I received this galley from SST in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to SST for the egalley.

While this book has a gorgeous cover, it didn't reflect what was inside. For me, this fantasy book felt lacking and it felt like too many other fantasy books I've already read.

But even though I had various problems with it, some things interested me in the end. Like the monsters. We didn't have a lot of information about them, but their uniqueness made me really intrigued, I wanted to know more about them. Why were they called that way? Where are they from? Is there a parallel universe somewhere in that world? The descriptions of each monster is really great and there are even poems/songs about them? It's like La Llorona or the Boogeyman for that historical time in this particular story.

I'm sure the story will only get better from this book. If you aren't too familiar with fantasy books, I would recommend to start with this one. But like me, who is such a die-hard fantasy fan, this book just wasn't for me.

Today on the blog we have lovely Stacey Agdern, author of Crossing the Lines, this fun sports romance that is inside an anthology called Icing the Puck *wink wink* If you love some fake dates, hockey and to be in love with your captain's sister kinda hero, you can def check this one out!

Title: Icing the Puck
Series: New York Empires #2
Authors: Isabo Kelly, Stacey Agdern, Kenzie Maclir
Stacey's: Crossing the Lines

Goodreads | Amazon

~ Crossing the Lines blurb ~

Kayleigh Emerson knows that she shouldn’t get involved with a teammate of her brother’s. But the chemistry between her and rookie sensation Max St. Laurent is unmistakable.

Max St. Laurent is captivated by the talented violinist who happens to be his captain’s sister. Unfortunately, he doesn’t need his unique combination of empathy and telepathy to realize there’ll be problems if he pursues her.

But when mandatory English conversational sessions lead to a fake date that feels all too real, Max and Kayleigh must decide whether to cross the line between friendship and love.

1. Hi Stacey, we're so happy to have you here in the blog! Tell us a bit about yourself and what do you write.
I'm so happy to be here :D Thank you for having me. I'm from New York, and I live in a little town near the Hudson river. I write paranormal, contemporary and historical romance. I love music and hockey *g* and read waaay too much.

2. What do you enjoy about writing about sports? Especially hockey. And if you were to write about another sport, which one would it be?
Hockey is my favorite sport to watch and follow. I spend *a lot* of time following my favorite team, and a few of the bloggers that write about it and soak in as much as I can. The stories come naturally from all of that research . And I love being able to involve myself in my favorite sport that way :)

Other sports? hmm. A few years ago I thought about a book with a soccer player hero and a race car driver heroine ;) I may still at some point. But we'll see :)

3. We love romance here in The Book Voyagers. Some of our favorite tropes are friends to lovers, rivals, fake dating, and much more. Which ones are your favorite?
I'm a sucker for the tortured hero (the less emotions the hero in question has at the start, the better). It is my catnip as a reader and something that carries all through the subgenres of romance I read. I also like friends to lovers and fake dating *g*

4. We're now going to play a game of This or That, okay?

  • So.... bad boy or good boy?

Good boy :D (especially irl). Bad boys are fun to read about but not to date ;)

  • Watching sports or reading about sports?
Can't decide on this one. I love both reading about my favorite sports and watching them. I've even brought some of my favorite sports romances to games (yep..) Books by Deirdre Martin and Rachel Gibson have made me feel better about playoff losses. Also reading sports romance by authors like Kat Latham, Kate Willoughby, Sawyer Bennett, Sophia Henry, Elle Kennedy, Kat Latham, Sarina Bowen, Farrah Rochon, Alison Parr and so many others, has gotten me through a very long offseason. so both :)

  • Coffee or tea?
Though I like both (and have mixed them in interesting ways), I'll say coffee because I'm more apt to reach for it first :)

  • Cold weather or hot weather?
Cold.

  • Physical books or ebooks?
Both. absolutely both :) It's like pokemon - you gotta catch them all :D

5. Icing the Puck, the anthology your story - Crossing the Lines - is on, just came out. Do you still have the same reaction when you see your book go live as the first time? What do you like more about release week?
YES. Disbelief, excitement, tears, nerves. I'm excited to see that people want to buy the book, and thrilled at the excitement about something I've written, nerves because I want them to enjoy it the way I've enjoyed so many books over the years. Tears, because something I've written has been published :D Also, and more importantly, how lucky I am that awesome people like Isabo Kelly and the Kenzie MacLir team agreed to come on this journey with me :)

6. And last, can you tell us what are you writing next.... or a bit about your future projects?
So there are three Emerson siblings. Chris was the hero of my story in Going All In(Playing Her Game), Kayleigh, who's the heroine of this one, and Bryce. Bryce has started 'lobbying' for his story, so I'm starting to research that one. I've also just sent in a short to an anthology celebrating a historic house in Manhattan about a guy who has an encounter of sorts with one of his ancestors. It's a postscript to a story called 'Home' that appeared in an anthology called 'For Love and Liberty.' And a few other things :)

7. That sounds amazingggg *Ahh* Thank you so much! It was a joy to have you here with us. Hope you had a good time :')
Thank you so much for having me :D I love chatting with you guys on twitter and your instagram reviews are amazing. As was this :D

Title: As I Descended
Author: Robin Talley
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release date: September 6th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepository

Maria Lyon and Lily Boiten are their school’s ultimate power couple—even if no one knows it but them.

Only one thing stands between them and their perfect future: campus superstar Delilah Dufrey.

Golden child Delilah is a legend at the exclusive Acheron Academy, and the presumptive winner of the distinguished Cawdor Kingsley Prize. She runs the school, and if she chose, she could blow up Maria and Lily’s whole world with a pointed look, or a carefully placed word.

But what Delilah doesn’t know is that Lily and Maria are willing to do anything—absolutely anything—to make their dreams come true. And the first step is unseating Delilah for the Kingsley Prize. The full scholarship, awarded to Maria, will lock in her attendance at Stanford―and four more years in a shared dorm room with Lily.

Maria and Lily will stop at nothing to ensure their victory—including harnessing the dark power long rumored to be present on the former plantation that houses their school.

But when feuds turn to fatalities, and madness begins to blur the distinction between what’s real and what is imagined, the girls must decide where they draw the line.

From acclaimed author Robin Talley comes a Shakespeare-inspired story of revenge and redemption, where fair is foul, and foul is fair.

Thank you Edelweiss and HarperCollins for the e-galley

My first Robin Talley book and it was spectacular! As I Descended is an F/F retelling of Shakespeare's Macbeth. It's super creepy and mysterious, and I got scared reading it at night. It takes place on a boarding school for the rich which makes it ten times better to be honest.

Hey guys! Today I bring you something cool. And new for me because helloooo? I haven't published any post recently except maybe blog tour posts and reviews and yup I've been missing some awesome blog posts.

I have always wanted to do a post about POCs on book covers. But when I saw the newest cover of Maurene Goo's I Believe in a Thing Called Love, I was like I AM IN LOVE. And I am. That cover is gorgeous and perfect and IT FEATURES A POC ON THE COVER. We totally need more book covers with beautiful models that fit the heritage/ethnicity of the main character inside the pages.

Thank you to Aila from One Way or An Author, she helped me by gathering up more covers. I love ya Aila!

I've read some of this list and I haven't read a lot of them. But I'm definitely changing that soon! Look at all the gorgeous faces and covers (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Title: Love On My Mind
Author: Tracey Livesay
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Release date: July 12th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

Tracey Livesay makes her Avon Impulse debut with a sparkling and sexy novel about a woman who will do anything to fulfill her dreams… but discovers that even the best laid plans can fail when love gets in the way.

Successful PR executive Chelsea Grant is one assignment away from making partner at her firm and nothing will stand in her way. Her big break? Turn a reclusive computer genius into a media darling in time for his new product launch. He may have been dubbed the "sexiest geek alive" but he has no patience for the press—and it shows. Piece of cake, right? Only problem is… his company doesn’t want him to know they hired her.

After a disastrous product launch two years ago, tech CEO Adam Bennett knows the success of his new device depends on the media’s support. When a twist of fate brings the beautiful PR specialist to his door, Adam hires Chelsea to help turn his image around. Their attraction is undeniable and the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to keep things professional.

But when Adam discovers Chelsea’s deception, will she risk everything for her career or is love the real thing on her mind?

Thanks you Edelweiss and HarperCollins for the egalley.

Definitely Love On My Mind is one of the best romances I've read recently.

Chelsea Grant is a woman I wish I will be when I grow up. She's fierce and she goes for the things she wants. But she is also scared and tries her best to achieve that partnership she has always wanted. But then here he comes, Adam Bennett. The tech CEO of one of the most successful tech companies right now. And he needs help with his image for his next launching.

Chelsea is this perfect PR woman that accepts the job, with a little bit of a downfall because she needs to lie to Adam of who she is. Since the very first moment, under the rain, and the blackouts, I totally rooted for them. They are such a nice couple and they understand each other better than anyone.

Adam is such a romantic like come on, how am I going to find a guy like that now? My expectations are high and I hope one day I find an Adam Bennett please. Also he's rich so thanks Tracey Livesay for creating Adam Bennett.

I'm pretty pumped for the next books (I hope there are next books?) BECAUSE MIKE AND JONATHAN NEED THEIR HEAS. I'm more excited about Jonathan tbh because of course, he has his own restaurants and he is A CHEF, YES PEOPLE. I am excited and I am ready for my Jonathan fix.

A former criminal defense attorney, Tracey finds crafting believable happily ever afters slightly more challenging than protecting our constitutional rights, but she’s never regretted following her heart instead of her law degree. She writes sexy and emotional contemporary interracial romances where strong, successful heroines find love with powerful, passionate heroes. She lives in Virginia with her husband—who she met on the very first day of law school–and their three children. She runs marathons and loves purses and TV (the shows on them, not the actual appliance). If you want to chat with her about them you can find her on social media or contact her through her website.

Title: Stripped Down
Series: Stripped #2
Author: Emma Hart
Release date: August 20th, 2016

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | iBooks

What do you get when you mix a bottle of tequila, a single mom moonlighting as a stripper, and her sinfully sexy boss with an impulsive side? Married. You get married.

Rich. Demanding. Hot. Crazy.
That was Beckett Cruz in a nutshell.
Not to mention wild, determined, dangerous, and forbidden. He was my boss—and, after a drunken moment of insanity, my new husband.
An annulment was impossible... so was keeping him. I was taking my daughter and leaving, determined to give her a quieter life. But Beckett Cruz had never taken no for an answer. And he wasn't about to take mine.

What happens in Vegas... might just keep you there.

You know I enjoy my fake marriage books just as much as I love sweets. Stripped Down's fake marriage is actually really nice and the development since the "I want to get a divorce" for the drunk decision of a marriage to the actual "I don't want ot sign the divorce papers because I want to make this work" part was great.

BOOK SUMMARY:

Sixteen-year-old Tashi has spent their life training as an inhabiter, a soldier who spies and kills using a bonded animal. When the capital falls after a brutal siege, Tashi flees to a remote monastery to hide. But when the invading army turns the monastery into a hospital, Tashi catches the eye of Xian, the regiment’s fearless young commander.

Tashi spies on Xian’s every move. In front of his men, Xian seems dangerous, even sadistic, but Tashi sees a more vulnerable side of the enemy commander – a side that draws them to Xian.

When their spying reveals that everything the inhabiter's academy taught was a lie, Tashi faces a choice: save their country or the boy they've started to love? But while Tashi grapples with the decision, their volatile bonded tiger doesn't question her allegiances. Katala slaughters Xian’s soldiers, leading the enemy to hunt her. But an inhabiter’s bond to their animal is for life – when Katala dies, so will Tashi.

Name: Tashi Pema

Born: A mountain village in the valleys near Tongsang

Status: Inhabiter student. Although they seemingly posess average abilities, Tashi is considered very special to the academy because a golden tiger chose them as a bond mate. Currently hiding in the Tongsang monastery.

Sign: Aquarius

Age: 16

Tashi was born in the remote mountain region of Shien. When they were eight, a travelling inhabiter who had come to bless the village's fields discovered Tashi and convinced their family to give them up.

Although an average student, Tashi made waves at the academy when Katala, a rare strawberry gold tiger chose them as their bond mate. Katala is considered a creature of legend by many in Shien, so when the city falls, the academy's leaders take extra precautions to send Tashi to safety.

From a young age, Tashi has chosen not to identify with one gender. Androgynous in appearance, Tash doesn't want to behave or think in a certain way based on gender. They are bothered by the concept of 'should' based on established norms. Tashi regularly changes their appearance according to what aspect of themself they wish to express. While in hiding, Tashi is often forced to pass as a boy at the monastery, something that causes them insecurity and stress.

At the monastery, Tashi catches Commander Xian's eye. They use their new position to spy and continue gaining information for the emerging rebel movement.

Originally from the Windy City, Julia Ember now resides in Sunny Scotland where she learned to enjoy both haggis and black pudding. She spends her days working as a professional Book Nerd for a large book distribution firm, and her nights writing YA Romantic Fantasy novels.

A world traveler since childhood, Julia has now visited over 60 countries. Her travels inspire the fictional worlds she writes about and she populates those worlds with magic and monsters.
