From gold medalist and reality TV star Shawn Johnson comes a debut YA novel inspired by her own experiences as an elite teenage gymnast—just in time for the Summer 2016 Olympic games.

Charlie Ryland has a secret.

She may seem like your average high school sophomore—but she’s just really good at pretending.

Because outside of school Charlie spends all her waking hours training to become one of the best gymnasts in the world. And it’s not easy flying under the radar when you’re aiming for Olympic gold…especially when an irresistible guy comes along and threatens to throw your whole world off balance.

Inspired by her own experiences as a fifteen-year-old Olympic gymnast, gold medalist Shawn Johnson writes a delightfully entertaining novel about chasing big dreams and falling in love, all while trying to keep it real.

The Flip Side is a great book to choose for the summer. It's light, adorable and because this year we have Olympics, it's a perfect read before the event starts.

I'm always expecting the gymnasts section of the Olympics every four years. It's one of my favorite sports to watch and it's so fun. Plus all these girls have trained hours and hours to get to this point (I know all the sports too!) but I'm captivated by the dancing + the gymnastics itself. If you're into that, Shawn Johnson writes a fun book about the life of one girl who keeps her gymantic life aside from her "normal and high-school" life. It was rather fun to read about Charlie and her friends and how her love for this sport is so real and her goals are something she wants to achieve really bad.

It also has a cute ship that I was rooting for since the first meeting and the guy is so adorable, you won't be able to stop swooning for him. The friendships in this book are so special. And it tells you how friends are always there for each other - the real kind of friends. Even if you are training for the Olympics, if your best friend needs something, you will do anything possible.

The family dynamics is *two thumbs up* I'm happy whenever I see great family dynamics in YA. I love Charlie's brother and her parents were super nice to meet and they were enjoyable to read when they were in scenes with Charlie.

The writing isn't the best to be quite honest. It could be better! Some development also were like *rolling eyes emoji* type. But that's about it. I mean if you don't expect like a super beautiful writing, amazing characters, star-crossed lovers romance, The Flip Side is a fun, easy and cute book that will make you pass your time laughing and smiling.

At 24 years old, American gymnast Shawn Johnson has accomplished a lifetime of achievements that include Olympic Medals, a New York Times best-selling book, a business, a career in broadcast, and took home the coveted mirror ball trophy on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.Hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide watched as a 16 year old Johnson won four medals including gold on the balance beam at the 2008 Summer Olympics, which took place in Beijing, China.
